What’s The Deal With This Blog?

I blogged a long time ago and did so for several years. The subject was Illinois politics and started with the US Senate race that eventually was won by a State Senator named Barack Obama. Illinois provided me with plenty of material, and it also gave me opportunities to have some great experiences and get to know folks across the political spectrum. However, as politics changed, my interest dropped off significantly.

Blogging was helpful for me if for no other reason than to help me improve my writing which needed and still needs to improve. So it was time to get back to trying to write on a bit of a schedule. This time with a very different focus than before. Now primarily about databases and magic with a more optimistic viewpoint and outlook than I was able to have writing about politics.

Why Databases?
I am a database professional who has worked primarily with SQL Server for nearly 30 years (back to the OS/2 days) and with InfluxDB (not nearly as long). Some great bloggers write about both platforms, but posting about issues I encounter (and other things) about those platforms might be helpful to someone searching google for help on the same problem.

Why Magic?
I perform magic with a non-profit organization for children in healthcare settings, and I will likely never write about that activity due to privacy concerns. I was interested in magic long before I started performing for people I didn’t know. But now I get to perform for people I don’t know, which is enjoyable.

As a result of my interest in magic, I have a collection of tricks. I also have a growing library of modern magic books and some older ones. I have a small collection of magic history collectibles and a small collection related to a single professional magician who lived in the same city I do today (but 50 years ago).

Other Stuff:
It could be football rule interpretations, football in general, or just about anything.
